It has been recently revealed in a report that the Food and Drug Administration has come up with an all new ‘biosimilar’ drugs. These drugs are actually much cheaper than the complex types usually available in the market. They are made from biological matter.

A latest report has unveiled that the Food and Drug Administration has voted against the wider use of Amgen Inc's drug Xgeva that is used for prevention of prostate cancer. It is being claimed by the FDA board that the benefits of Xgeva are not able to offset the risk of prostate cancer which could affect bones.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has forwarded a proposal in which it has recommended not to change its coverage of anemia drugs made by Amgen Inc. (AMGN) and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ).

The largest biotechnology company of the world named Amgen Inc. stated that it agreed to purchase Biovex, a closely held maker of experimental cancer drugs for four hundred and twenty five million dollars plus as much as five hundred and seventy five million dollars in milestone payments.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given an approval for a new medicine for osteoporosis. This drug is Amgen’s Prolia, which prevents fractures in women after the menopause. The medicine is as effective as the other drugs like bisphosphonates, Actonel, Boniva , Reclast and Fosamax.

On Monday, Amgen Inc., the world' largest and top-ranked biotechnology firm, posted a slightly disappointing earnings report for the year's fourth-quarter, while also asserting that revenue and net profits for the year 2010 are all set to significantly grow.

Amgen Inc. (AMGN) said tests of its bone drug denosumab showed reduction in risk of developing multiple skeletal linked events by 23 per cent when compared with Novartis AG's (NVS) Zometa in patients with advanced breast cancer.

Denosumab also deferred the time to the first such events, including fracture, radiation and surgery on bones.

The Food and Drug Administration postponed its approval decision on Amgen Inc.'s osteoporosis treatment denosumab, since it requires more information from the drug maker.

Amgen Inc. which is a unit of the Japanese drug maker Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. has suspended the trial of new cancer drug. The drug was in a late – stage of experimentation.
