A brand new software update has been released by Barnes & Noble for their Nook Color device. This update brings with it, an enhanced performance, better Wi-Fi connectivity and an added ability to pinch and zoom in the web browser.

With Barnes & Noble (B&N) yet to release an official update for bringing the Kindle app for Android on its new Nook Color - the holiday season's best-selling device this year -, hackers have already started "rooting" the device to run a customized Android version that allows users to download Android apps, including the Kindle app.

At its Tuesday media event in New York, bigwig bookseller Barnes & Noble (B&N) introduced Nook Color - a new version of its Nook e-reader, which allows users to view color e-books as well as access social media applications on the Internet.

In an evident attempt to establish itself with children and their parents as a digital e-book leader, US’ biggest bookstore chain Barnes & Noble (B&N) will soon launch a digital collection of over 12,000 children’s books under the name Nook Kids.

Barnes & Noble (B&N) said in a Thursday announcement that its dedicated Nook e-reader will hit the 2,500 of the Wal-Mart Super Centers on October 24. The move, which will also include the online availability of Nook from Wal-Mart website, will mark the expansion of the presence of B&N’s e-reader.

On Friday, Barnes & Noble officially released the version 1.3 of the update software for its popular Nook e-reader, which is inclusive of a web browser, quicker page turning and various new games. The Nook, which runs on Google's Android, now also allows users to read books in Barnes & Noble retail stores for free. In addition, the update fixes a couple of bugs.

American retail giant Best Buy has today confirmed its store shelves are to keep Barnes & Noble's twin-screen Nook electronic book reader together with free BN eReader software for PCs, notebooks, tablets and smart phones.

According to reports, Barnes & Noble's Nook is coming to Best Buy, a development that launches the Kindle-like e-reader to the electronics vendor's tech-savvy clients.

Starting Sunday April 18, Best Buy will sport Nook displays in its 1,070 U. S. stores. Consumers will be able to try and purchase the Nook, or buy one from the retailer's website.
