Oracle and NetApp seemingly have agreed to settle for a three-year long patent infringement lawsuit.

It was further added that the lawsuit was initially fought amidst NetApp and Sun Microsystems, but when Oracle acquired Sun, the fight further continued. It was further claimed that both the firms had agreed to drop the charges and make progress.

NetApp is rejoicing the shipment of over 150,000 unified storage systems, and some analysts are driving the company, whose stock has increased by 5% in the last few days.

However, another view is that this press and blog blitz may have more to do with an expected unified storage declaration from the storage industry's 800-pound monster, EMC.

A new device named "V-CX" is being planned to be launched by EMC by the month of April. This device will be a combined SAN/NAS product for reviving the CLARiiON and Celerra's best bits. SAN/NAS devices are generally termed "unified storage".

NetApp is also depicting its unified storage cred through a nifty graphic on its home page.

The bidding war for the Santa Clara, California-based little-known specialty storage maker, Data Domain, took a somewhat dramatic turn on Monday, when data-storage biggie EMC boosted its offer to $2.1 billion, in the hope of pushing out its rival bidder NetApp.
