In a recent announcement, Vizio – the maker of low-cost LCD televisions and Blu-ray players - said that it is expanding its existing product lineup with the addition of 21 3D high-definition televisions (HDTVs), including one which will have a 71-inch screen.

Joining the likes of LG and Vizio, which already have LED backlighting in their latest HDTV sets, the electronics maker Sharp has also marked its foray into the LED sets arena by unveiling its first LED sets from its Aquos series of LCD HDTVs.

Close on the heels of Pioneer Electronics' decision from withdrawing from the plasma TV market, the Southern California-based Vizio announced its plan of discontinuing its manufacturing of plasma TVs, and shift its attention towards LCD technology.
