Oneworld, the alliance of global airlines that includes the struggling Japan Airlines Corp., has tried to put the concerns of passengers at rest by assuring them that the code-share and frequent- flyer arrangements will continue as normal even after the Tokyo-based carrier's bankruptcy filing.
The position that JAL holds in the 11-member Oneworld alliance has not been affected in any way by today's announcement and it has been shared, according London-based spokesman Michael Blunt, "in anticipation of enquiries from consumers".
"International travelers, in particular frequent flyers, are aware of how airlines tend to operate in this type of restructuring. There are a number of U. S. carriers that have been through a court- ordered restructuring and have maintained their operations", said Mr. Blunt.
Oneworld members include giants like American Airlines and British Airways, and the group has said that they are offering "all possible support" to JAL.
Recently, JAL filed for the country's fourth-largest bankruptcy under a 900 Trillion Yen ($10 Billion) restructuring plan, which has come after 4 Government-back bailouts which failed to pump life back into Asia's most indebted airline.
