Haitian-born musician Wyclef Jean wept, defending his charity on Monday rising to the questions about its practices while calling on the international community to enable the evacuation of his homeland's earthquake-ravaged capital.
"I want all Haitian people to listen to this. I do not cry for myself, I cry for all the Haitian people", he said.
Jean was outraged as he defended his organization, which has received more than $2 million in donations in just a few days.
In addition, the musician also denied to take money from his own charity, The Yele Haiti Foundation, for personal gain.
"Port-au-Prince is a morgue," Jean claimed at a Manhattan press conference, citing how he accumulated the corpses of small children and adults from the blooded streets on his recent trip. Tears trickled down his face while he looked into the camera, speaking to his countrymen.
Jean gave an impassioned defense of the organization.
The foundation is in a process to initiate its plan to deliver donated supplies to Haiti on a plane provided by FedEx on Saturday.
In addition, it is still deciding over the process to spent the donated funds, considering such options as mobile schools for refugee camps and security forces to escort supplies, it has been shared.
