Toyota Motor Corp, world's No. 1 car-manufacturer, has announced a second huge recall of vehicles in the United States to correct potentially faulty accelerator pedals.
Toyota’s latest recall involves 2.3 million cars and trucks. The recall includes the 2009-2010 models of RAV4, Corolla and Matrix; 2005-2010 models of Avalon; 2007-2010 models of Camry; 2007
-2010 models of Tundra; 2008-2010 models of Sequoia and the latest model of Highlander.
Lexus and Scion brands of Toyota are not involved in the recall.
The newest recall follows Toyota’s recent recall of around 4.2 million vehicles in wake of complaints that affected vehicles’ floor mats could jam the gas pedal down, which could cause accidents.
Toyota's last year’s recall involved the Camry, Avalon sedans, the Prius hybrid, IS250, IS350 and ES350 models of the luxury Lexus and the Tacoma and Tundra trucks.
Last year’s recall had triggered a scolding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which monitors vehicles’ safety.
Shares in Toyota shed 3.3 per cent to 4,050 yen-a-share on Friday morning in Tokyo.
