John Temple, the editor and publisher of the Rocky Mountain News, is leaving Denver to join Honlulu-based Peer News as editor.

Peer News' CEO and publisher announced that Honlulu-based local news service Peer News will be launched in the second quarter of this year.

Peer News was co-founded by eBay founders Pierre Omidyar and Randy Ching in 2008. Peer News will be an online only news service.

Peer News will focus on local Hawaiian issues. The idea behind Peer News is to reinvent local and civic-minded journalism in a profitable way.

The Rocky Mountain News bagged Pulitzer prizes four times under Temple’s leadership.
