According to scientists a higher level of vitamin D in your blood expresses a lesser chance of developing bowel cancer as compared to those who have low levels.
The British Medical Journal has concluded that people who have the highest levels of vitamin were at a 40 percent lower risk of developing the disease as compared with those with the lowest levels.
Scientists at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France, and Imperial College London carried out this research which was funded by World Cancer Research Fund
(WCRF).
The results came after medical experts showed their concern yesterday about the increasing number of cases of rickets – caused due to vitamin D deficiency- and proposed for it to be added to milk and other food products.
Vitamin D is the main source of sunlight, through skin exposure but it is also present some food articles like oily fish or cod liver oil.
The latest study, though, gives the evidence of a link between vitamin D and bowel cancer but it doesn’t imply that consuming vitamin D supplements prevents the disease.
