According to a recent confirmation by Sony Computer Entertainment, the PlayStation 3 gaming console has touched a new sales height in the UK – having surpassed the 3-million units mark ever since its March 2007 debut.
The 3-million sales mark achieved by the PS3 is an indication of better numbers to come for the console. That the console’s pickup rate is set for an increase is evident from the last April- released figures by UK retailer GAME, which revealed that the PS3 had sold 1.9 million units in the UK, thereby accounting for an average monthly sales rate of 76,000.
With Sony also revealing that the company sold almost 3.8 million consoles the world over during the Christmas period, the PS3 has averaged a monthly sales rate of 120,000 between April 2009 and January 2010. The figures have apparently been on the rise since the launch of ‘Uncharted 2’ late last year, and forthcoming exclusives like Gran Turismo 5, MAG, Agent, and Heavy Rain would only be adding to the numbers this year.
The PS3 was also dubbed as 2009’s “star console” by the UK-based Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association, due to its 14 percent year-on-year rise in software unit sales.
Noting that the 3-million milestone achieved by PS3 is a reason to celebrate, Sony is throwing a party in London to memorialize the feat!
