On Friday, a local philanthropic couple sent in a donation worth $4 Million to the University of Winnipeg, which has been the largest ever donation in the institute's history.
A major chuck of the money from John and Bonnie Buhler will be utilized in the building of a four-storey, 50,000-square-foot structure, which would adorn the corner Portage Avenue and Colony Street. The building, which is presently under construction at the site of the previous United Army Surplus, will now be christened the Buhler Centre to honor the generous couple.
From the total donation, $3 Million would be utilized by the university to "consolidate (its) faculty of business and economics in the new location, across the street and down the block from its historic downtown campus".
As has been shared by the university, the new building will house state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs and meeting rooms.
"This historic gift from John and Bonnie Buhler is allowing us to add creative capacity to our surrounding neighborhood", said Lloyd Axworthy, president and vice-chancellor of the U of W.
