Children would no more have chocolates, fries, candy and pop on school premises from the first day at school from this year. According to Trillium Lakelands District School Board, in local public schools food would get a whole lot healthier.
Ontario's Ministry of Education has given a go ahead to the implementation of the Ontario School Food and Beverage Policy by September 1 this year.
"This policy is an important step in encouraging our children to develop healthier lifestyle habits. We know that children who are healthy learn better and more effectively," stated interim director of education Warren Rosborough.
Officials reported that ministry training would be attended by a team from the board about the new policy next month.
According to the Ontario School Food and Beverage Policy at least 80per cent of all food and beverage choices should have more number of nutrients and food should be low in fat, sodium as well as sugar content. This includes food available for sale in all venues, through all programs, and at all events.
