United Way Worldwide members in the Caribbean have mobilized their staff, volunteer leaders and resources for lending a helping hand in rescue and relief operations in Haiti. United Way of West Tennessee is accumulating donations to support such efforts.
The general public can be a part of the noble task by donating money or health kit supplies, said the Rev. Nancy Cushman, senior pastor.
Checks can be delivered to the following address with "Haiti Disaster Fund" referenced in either the memo line or an enclosed correspondence: United Way of West Tennessee, Attn: Haiti Disaster Fund, P. O. Box 2086, Jackson, TN 38302.
In addition, one could also text HAITI to 864833 (UNITED). Money incurred from each text will donate $5 to the United Way Haiti Disaster Recovery Fund. This donation will appear on your next cell phone bill.
Local United Methodist churches are asked to pack health kits for Haiti by Jan. 31.
Each kit must contain: one hand towel, one washcloth, one comb, one Nail file, a soap bar, a toothbrush and six adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages.
For queries regarding the relief effort, call Bill Carr at (270) 816-4824 or (270) 556-5221.
One could donate in cash to the United Methodist Committee on Relief: Advance No. 418325. According to a news release, 100 percent of all monetary gifts will go to help the people of Haiti. None will be used for administrative costs.
