Amazon opening Kindle 2 app store; working out a new e-book pricing plan
Amazon opening Kindle 2 app

With the opening of Amazon’s Kindle app store apparently on the cards, the company recently announced that it has now reached out to developers, asking them to develop applications for its Kindle 2.

In an attempt to provide a ‘reading plus’ experience to the Kindle users, Amazon has said that its initial partners include EA Mobile and Zagat, thereby hinting that apps like restaurant reviews, Kindle recipe books, and gaming would soon hit its popular e-reader.

As per the information forwarded by Amazon, the Kindle app store will have a diverse payment arrangement and app size. While all apps will be limited to 100 KB of monthly data per user, the free apps will be smaller than 1 MB. The bigger apps will be available via a USB download, and only those apps that are smaller than 10 MB will be available wirelessly.

Amazon will also keep a close watch over the Kindle app store offerings, so that it can block any offensive applications or Kindle jailbreakers.

In addition to the announcement about the imminent opening an app store, Amazon has also tried to counter the criticism about the high price of the e-books – it has worked out a new e-book pricing plan and revenue sharing agreement with publishers, with e-books to cost 20 percent less than the lowest listed price of a physical copy.
