Wards shut down at hospitals due to norovirus

Outbreak of norovirus has forced about nine wards of Swansea hospital to be closed down and some at a few other hospitals also. 

New patients are not being admitted to affected wards at Morriston Hospital and Hill House.

Visitors are being urged by the infection control staff at the two hospitals to help keep the virus at bay by taking certain precautions like practice good hygiene. Visitors are being asked to remain at home until necessary.

At Morriston Hospital R, T, V, S, G, W, H wards and Anglesey Ward have been affected. At Hill House ward two has been affected by norovirus.

Delyth Davies, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board’s lead nurse for infection control, said, “Norovirus illness can be quite unpleasant, particularly when you are a patient in hospital. We have procedures to help contain the virus in hospital but it can still cause significant disruption.”

Every year in the U.K., about 3,500 reported cases of norovirus are reported.
