Oracle is speculated to extend assurances that it will continue to invest in all of Sun Microsystems's main server platforms, with a view to convince Sun customers that they should stick with those products as the giant works to resuscitate itself as a systems and software company.
Possibly suggesting that Sun thought of 'do no evil' first, the company noted, "Sun did not cheat, lie, or break the rule of law or decency. While we enjoyed breaking the rules of conventional wisdom and archaic business practice, and for sure loved to win in the market, we did so with a solid reputation for integrity".
Oracle is expected to disclose details on Wednesday about its plans for the companies' product lines, which also include databases, Java middleware, operating systems and storage gear. There is overlap in many areas, notably middleware, and analysts expect Oracle to discontinue at least some of the products.
Oracle reveals that it can develop superior systems for customers as it owns vast enterprise server stack under one roof. In addition, it plans to develop more products, like its Exadata Database Machine, that combine hardware and software optimized for particular tasks, such as data warehousing.
The company quotes to keep its full concentration on enterprise customers, coupled with performance, scalability and high availability from these types of systems.
While the $7.4 billion takeover was delayed by an investigation by European regulators, the EC finally mirrored its approval last week.
