A second wave of swine flu is expected to take the region in its grip, epidemiologists have warned. Places most vulnerable are workplaces, homes and classrooms. They have stated that the best way to avoid the virus is by vaccination.
Across the Northern Hemisphere the Swine flu returned with the winter cold, and according to the world health organisation, it claimed thousands of lives.
Professor Robert Booy from the Westmead Children's Hospital said a safe vaccine was never there that could prevent the virus and we could not avoid the second wave of swine flu and the northern hemisphere has now already suffered their second wave.
Chairman of the Influenza Specialist Group Professor Alan Hampson stated that last year when the flu hit the region the situation was entirely different.
Hampson added, “The vaccine availability was against us, in particular the paediatric formulation because it became available essentially as schools were closing.”
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer, Jeannette Young, warned pregnant women and children as they were at a higher risk of acquiring the virus.
