It seems that Sega has realized that it has not recently played with our hearts as it has brought the future of the franchise of Shenmue in a much dangerous position. It has been reported that Sega had made it public that a series of Shenmue is very much in their thoughts but it is a little difficult to implement as the sales are a huge factor that has to be considered.

This hesitation to return to the franchise is due to the fact that none of the previous games from Shenmue had sold that well at all and it is reportedly supposed that there is still a chance for them to go back to their franchise and they would in fact love to do it a lot.

There are also possibilities of developing the next version which is the third of Shenmue if there was a platform holder who was ready to fund the process with the exclusivity as an exchange. With Nintendo and Sega being on very good terms in the past few years, it would be a good idea if Nintendo decides to fund the development as they sure have the money to risk.
