DNA Tests Confirm Skeletal Remains Are Those Of Caycee Anthony

DNA tests confirm that the skeletal remains found in the woods, belong to the 3-year old Florida girl, missing since June.  Just last week, a utility worker stumbled upon the remains, less than a half-mile from where the girl lived.  However, Dr. Jan Garavaglia, county medical examiner says, the remains though they match Caylee Anthony’s genetic profile, do not yield any clues as to how she was killed.  While, some tests are still being completed, the bones, the bone scattered fragments, some of them as small as a pebble, made it hard for the excavators to find.

Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, 22, was indicted on first-degree murder, including other charges last October, even though no body was found.  She told police that she left the girl with a baby sitter in June, however, failed to report her missing till July.

Caylee’s disappearance captivated the community where the little girl lived with her family, ever since the little girl’s grandmother first called authorities in July and told them she hadn’t seen Caylee for a month, and Casey, her daughter’s car smelled like death.

In her interview with the police, everything Casey Anthony told them about Caylee’s whereabouts turned out to be not true.  There was no baby sitter, the apartment where Anthony said she last saw Caylee had been empty for months, as well, Anthony lied about where she worked.

To add to the troublesome details, photos of Anthony partying after her daughter went missing surfaced.  Her friends told police Casey was a habitual liar and also was not a good mother.

Sometime in March, the Caseys’ home computer showed Google and Wikipedia had been searched for peroxide, shovels, acetone, alcohol and chloroform.  During forensic testing, traces of chloroform, which induces unconsciousness, including a component of human decomposition, were found in the trunk of Casey Anthony.  And as recently as last month, the Orange County State Attorney found documents showing someone used the Anthonys’ home computer to search the Internet for terms like ‘neck breaking’ and ‘household weapons.’

Casey Anthony, who faces charges that include first-degree murder in her daughter’s disappearance, could be sentenced to life imprisonment, if she is convicted.  However, prosecutors say they will not seek the death penalty for her crime.
