Aspen, the first smartphone equipped with the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system, was Tuesday unveiled by Sony Ericsson. The business-specific, tablet-shaped Aspen features a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, a QWERTY keyboard, and 3G; as essentially focuses on messaging.
Scheduled for a 2010 second quarter release, the Aspen, being a Windows phone, will feature Microsoft’s standard suite of mobile productivity and entertainment applications, including Office, Outlook, and Windows Media Player. Furthermore, the phone is being bundled with some popular user-friendly apps, like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Equipped with a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver, the Sony Ericsson Aspen will be available in two models. While both the Aspen versions will boast quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM/EDGE; one of them will have tri-band HSPA (850/900/2100); and the other will have dual-band HSPA (900/2100).
Built from recycled plastics, with only water-based paints used, the Sony Ericsson Aspen is part of the company’s GreenHeart line of environmentally friendly smartphones.
With the Aspen being termed by Sony Ericsson as a “business phone with a conscience,” the company’s Global Marketing Manager Quentin Cordier has described the phone as being “perfect for any consumer or company who want to make a green choice in their daily work life.”
