Late on Wednesday, a Giacometti statue managed to break that art auction record at Sotheby's, and as impressive and surreal the $104.3 Million price tag might be, experts have predicted that this is not the end and there might be even higher numbers following.
"You only need two individuals to take something to $104 million or more. I am confident we will break $104 million in the next couple of years", said Philip Hoffman, founder of the Fine Art Fund Group. The group currently counts over a dozen billionaires among its long and impressive clients list.
Despite the fact that the economy has lately been shaky, there are suitors willing to shell out huge amounts of money for collectibles which can be viewed both as a priceless addition to an already impressive collection or a smart investment.
The very latest Giacometti statue, "L'homme qui marche I" (Walking Man I) has managed to walk off with the honors of being the most highly priced piece ever and has broken the previous held record of $104.2 Million which was held by a Picasso painting set which was auctioned on 2004 in New York.
