Former US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin made an attempt to rally conservatives on Saturday night at a national convention of the "Tea Party" movement, taking aim at President Barack Obama on everything from big government to Teleprompters.
Speaking in Nashville, Mrs Palin called President Obama's 2011 budget "immoral" and claim it would trigger the US debt.
It is a three-day event that had been hampered by infighting, pullouts and criticism of tickets costing more than $500. However, the appearance of Palin, the darling of the U.S. conservative movement, raised its profile and granted her a national stage to directly urge to an emerging base for the Republican Party.
Mrs. Palin revealed, "It's easy to understand why Americans are shaking their heads when Washington has broken trust with the people that these politicians are to be serving," she told the convention.
The people involved in tea Party dominated headlines last year with often highly charged protests against Obama's healthcare reform drive, a $787 billion economic stimulus package and other initiatives.
Members, gathered from state-level Tea Parties, reflect a complain that large spending to stabilize the economy is being merely wasted in Washington and on Wall Street while small-town America has to fasten its belt.
