Comcast will roll out its new Xfinity offering to 11 markets starting next week, the company announced during a Wednesday earnings call. Along with the roll-out, Comcast will also re-brand its offerings as Xfinity TV, Xfinity Voice, and Xfinity Internet, though the company name will remain Comcast.
According to Comcast’s blog, Chicago, as well as Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Portland, Seattle, Hartford, Augusta, Chattanooga, and parts of the Bay Area and San Francisco, will receive the new service, dubbed “Xfinity” next week.
However, more cities will be added later this year.
The service facilitates 20,000+ new HD channels, 50 to 70 foreign-language channels, incredibly fast Internet speeds ranging from 50 Mbps growing to 100+ Mbps, and the ability to watch shows online as well.
In December, Comcast revealed about its expansion plans to provide trials to customers who are dual-play subscribers of Comcast cable and high-speed Internet and re-brand the effort Xfinity.
The connection will require Subscribers to download a Comcast client to watch the content.
Access is free to subscribers and there is no limit on how many hours a given user can consume, though Comcast's monthly 250-GB cap for residential users is still in effect.
