Alzheimer Society Walk, Record Amount Collected

Marking the end of January's Alzheimer's Awareness Month, Ottawa's first indoor fund raising walk raised a record amount of over $148,000 to benefit the work of the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County. This walk was held on January 31st inside Carleton University Fieldhouse. 388 walkers, including thousands of donors, hundreds of volunteers, and dozens of sponsors combined to support people and families coping with Alzheimer's disease.

The board members said, “The liberal community support for our “Walk for Memories” on Jan. 31 is hard to believe and overwhelming. The community's generosity has redoubled our determination to fulfill our mission to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer's disease.”

Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants, Team Scotiabank, and St. Joseph Communications were among leading sponsors.

This fund raiser is aimed at supporting, educating, and promoting research to help the 13,000 people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in Ottawa and Renfrew County as well as their families. The fund rising was highest by Ms. Chris Donahoe with an amount of $8,210 and at the second place was Mrs. Joan McKee with $4,905. The team Scotiabank, for raising $12,227 has been crowned as the highest amount raising team.
