Rent-Free Smart Home Based on Saving Energy and Water

The New South Wales Government is welcoming volunteers to live rent free in a so called smart home in Sydney for a year.

The Minister for Energy, John Robertson reveals that the family will be testing the latest technology, to save energy and water.

The three-bedroom house in the old Olympic Village in Newington, in Sydney's west, posses a rooftop solar panels, uses eco friendly methods as harnessing electricity in a fuel cell derived from natural gas, water saving appliances, state-of-the-art lighting and a worm farm.

Moreover, an electric car, 'organic' LED TV, and technology that will enable the family to turn lights and appliances on and off from an iphone or laptop comes as an added benefit.

The home is currently in being worked on, and is expected to welcome its first tenants in the middle of the year.
