Using Virus-Free Technique, Stem Cells Transform into Pluripotent

Using virus- free techniques, a way to transform the stem cells from human fat into stimulated pluripotent stem cells has been discovered by the Stanford University School of Medicine. They use sophisticated mathematical techniques to study the movements of stem cells. Mini circles, rings of DNA are used to induce pluripotent stem cells. There are also predictions about the kind of cells they will become.

"Imagine doing a fat or skin biopsy from a member of a family with heart problems, reprogramming the cells to pluripotency and then making cardiac cells to study in a laboratory dish. This would be much easier and less invasive than taking cell samples from a patient's heart", said Cardiologist Joseph Wu, the senior author of the research. The lead author of the work is the research assistant Fangjun Jia.

Stem cells move to and fro and ultimately to a piece of heart, brain, bone or skin. Scientists are trying to discover ways to guide cells to a particular path. Cohen a researcher of de Recherches Cliniques de Montreal and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has developed a way to control over our own cells. He invented a way which helped scientists to study if the cells responded to developmental cues from the environment before moving toward their eventual fates.
