Thoughts of sex can trigger sneezing

A recent research has shown that thinking of sex can lead to sneezing. Research revealed that this tendency is rare but not uncommon. Most people find it difficult to discuss it with the doctor. Sneezing due to thoughts of sex is caused by a fault in nervous system which sends a signal to nose causing people to sneeze when aroused.

Research team led by Dr Mahmood Bhutta, a specialist in ear, nose and throat conditions at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford asked about the problem in internet chat rooms. Many people admitted anonymously that they started to sneeze when they became sexually excited.

Researchers also found that one in four people are known to occasionally sneeze in response to sunlight. This research also revealed a strange fact that there are entire families who sneeze when their stomach is full.

Dr Mahmood Bhutta says that it certainly seems odd, but he thinks this reflex demonstrates evolutionary relics in the wiring of a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system. He added that sometimes the signals in this system get crossed, and he thinks this may be why some people sneeze when they think about sex.
