Official announcements have confirmed that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will be creating an all new climate change office to collect and provide data and statistics to Governments, industries and academic institutions, a move which is being viewed as a key part of the broad federal effort to gear up for long-term and substantial changes to the planet.
The new group, to be named the NOAA Climate Service, will collect the nearly 550 scientists and analysts already working on the said problems at the agency. They will come together to form a cohesive group under one single leader.
"By providing critical planning information that our businesses and our communities need, NOAA Climate Service will help tackle head-on the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change. In the process, we’ll discover new technologies, build new businesses and create new jobs", said Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, whose department oversees the atmospheric agency.
The agency has also come with a website, climate. gov, which aims at making it easier for people to find the Government's climate change data and analysis and research.
