The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued strict warnings and declared a voluntary recall of ChildESIGNS drop-side cribs following the reports of infant deaths. The recall specifically includes all Generation 2 Worldwide cribs with drop-down sides.
The commission said, “Generation 2 Worldwide, maker of the cribs, went out of business in 2005, giving the agency limited access to information about the cribs. It is believed that there were more than 500,000 of these cribs sold”.
The cribs were sold at a nationwide furniture discount store for $60 to $160. The commission said it received three reports of deaths of infants from Ohio, Indiana and Virginia back in 2003. The deaths occurred when the babies suffocated while they got trapped between the mattresses after the detachment of the drop side of the cribs.
In 20 other received reports, although the kids survived but it is being advised that infant caregivers should stop using the cribs and should not even try to fix the broken cribs side. It has also been recommended to the consumers that the cribs should be returned to the retailer for a refund, a replacement or store credit.
These Generation 2 Worldwide or ChildESIGNS are sold at Buy Buy Baby, Kmart, Wal-Mart, and other retailers.
