Valentine’s “Message Bears” to disappear from Stores
Target-Corporation-Store

Following an announcement on Tuesday in a letter sent by Attorney General Jerry Brown, the Target Corporation is going to remove the two Valentine's Day "Message Bears" from stores. After testing conducted on the toys concluded that toys comprise lead levels that disobeyed federal law for products for children less than 12 years of age.

One out of two stuffed bear is pink with "XOXO" across the chest the second one has "I Love (represented as a heart) U" across the chest and is brown in color. Initially the tests results said that lead levels were within the limits. But now after being found to be violating the federal law limitations, the company has obediently decide to pull of the toys.

Brown's letter stated, "In this case, the laboratory identified lead levels nearly 10 times higher than those allowed under federal law. We ask that you stop selling the bears immediately and that you accept returns of the product, even without a receipt, as part of any corrective action".

Investigators from the Center for Environmental Health, a nonprofit watchdog, found the letters on the toys exceeding the federal limit. Lead is harmful as exposure can especially affect children and damages the nervous system

Beth Hanson, a spokeswoman for Target, said, "We are locking this item at point of sale so guests are unable to purchase it while we conduct an internal investigation on the safety of this product".
