Walt Disney, the World's biggest media company, reported unexpectedly good earnings in stores in Italy. These sales picked the pace after Christmas in first months of this year which is expected to rise further. Performance by cable division and cost-cuts in its film studio can also be crowned for the rise.

In an interview published on Wednesday, Disney Italy Chief Executive, Cecilia Tosting said, "We expect 2010 to be a year of growth. Disney has 16 stores in Italy, its second-biggest European market, and is planning to open another two by the end of 2010 with a plan for further growth in successive years. Revenues at sales points continue to be good even if Christmas started slowly, but then there was an acceleration that continued in the first months of 2010".

Cinema owners in UK are talking about the time span for which they have to wait before for released movies on DVD. UK theatre owners were intimated by Disney that they are looking forward for "Alice in Wonderland" on DVD 13 weeks after it opens March 5 in theaters.

Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger said, "It's time on a case-by-case basis, movie by movie, to really take a look at how we're windowing the home-video product into the marketplace. A healthy home-video business is in the best interests of the theater owners because it will allow studios to keep investing in content".
