Opera Software plans to unveil a version of its Opera Mini browser for the iPhone at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona next week. Opera Mini aims to facilitate faster browsing than Apple's Safari, which ships on iPhones, Opera said Wednesday.
The company's internal testing reveals that Opera Mini extends a six times faster speed than Apple's Safari browser, according to Katrin Jaakson, communications manager at Opera. This feature is backed by putting Opera's own servers between you and the internet and transferring special images of the webpages to your phone.
However, the software is a Java based software, which doesn't operate on the iPhone.
Speaking to Reuters, Opera co-founder Jon von Tetzchner said "We have not submitted it yet to the Apple App Store. However, we hope that Apple will not deny their users a choice in Web browsing experience".
Apart from these, other numerous features are hoped to lure iPhone owners is support for tabs and speed dial, a feature that facilities direct access to favorites via thumbnail images on the start page.
Besides Opera Mini for iPhone, Opera will also demo beta versions of Opera Mobile 10 on Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and Android at the Barcelona show.
