Ford is currently believed to be on a roll, a hard one. A re-designed Ford Edge for 2011 makes its public debut at the Chicago Auto Show, a somewhat subdued show being held in the middle of a Midwestern blizzard.
Virtually everything is new except the upper door frames and roof sheet metal. The new entry depicts new engines, spectacular new interior, new technology, and a whole reformed look.
However, Ford's refreshing of the 2007 Ford Edge is fairly substantial, including a new front end and an all-new interior.
The 2011 Ford is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 and now the Edge Sport gets Mustang's cooking 305hp 3.7-liter V-6 with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing. The 3.5-liter V-6 produces 285 hp.
The crossover is revealed to feature with three engine options, including a gas-sipping EcoBoost engine. It will be the first Ford to come up with the automaker's new MyFord Touch system, which replaces knobs and switches with computer screens and touch-sensitive buttons.
The Edge was first launched in 2007. Last year, when Ford introduced the refreshed Ford Fusion, the company witnessed a 22% jump in sales. So this change could be significant for Ford, which has been on a bit of a roll with new models lately.
