Activision Blizzard’s conference call, reporting the results for the 2009 fourth quarter, witnessed a much-awaited announcement: that the closed beta of its new game ‘StarCraft 2’ will begin some time this month.
Activision CEO Mike Morhaime announced at the recently-concluded conference call that while the beta of the game will begin before the end of February, the game itself has been scheduled for a ‘mid-2010’ release.
Another interesting fact disclosed about ‘StarCraft 2’ is that the game will be made available for download on Activision’s new Battle. net site, which will essentially be a singular place for playing and experiencing all Activision games. The new updated service will also provide gamers the ability to communicate with one another – both across the World of WarCraft dominion, as well as the other games.
Stopping short of giving any more details about the forthcoming beta of ‘StarCraft 2,’ Morhaime only revealed that the game’s beta would be available worldwide and will include thousands of players.
The announcement implies that avid gamers would start looking forward, with bated breath, as to whether they have been accepted into the ‘StarCraft 2’ beta or not – and, those who are keen to join the action, can still opt in and hope to get selected for the beta!
