A recent revelation by experts has managed to give a new meaning to the phrase "bored to death".
In a commentary, which is all set to be published in April, experts have stressed that there are good chances that the people who are more bored could end up dying early.
University College London's Annie Britton and Martin Shipley have asserted that it is not boredom alone that is a killer, but the fact that it is a symptom of other risk and life-threatening behaviors like drinking, smoking, taking drugs or developing psychological problems.
To reach at the aforementioned conclusion, researchers studied questionnaires completed between 1985 and 1988 by over 7,500 London civil servants, aged between 35 to 55 years.
"Someone who is bored may not be motivated to eat well, exercise, and have a heart-healthy lifestyle. That may make them more likely to have a cardiovascular event", said Dr. Christopher Cannon, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard University and spokesman for the American College of Cardiology.
Details will be published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.
