Announcing its first Freeview HD receiver, the HDR5010, Japanese Consumer Electronics firm Toshiba has given T3 a sneak peak of its 2010 line-up – which, other than the Freeview HD-ready PVR, includes a range of Freeview HD high-definition televisions.
The announcement of the DiVX-compatible HDR5010 – which boasts two Freeview HD tuners; a 500GB hard disk drive (HDD); two USB ports; and both HDMI and SCART ports – comes a few months ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The device will retail at almost £350, and will likely hit the markets in June.
Essentially a twin tuner Freeview+ Digital TV Recorder, the HD5010’s dual tuners facilitate the viewing of one channel alongside the recording of another; while the 500GB HDD boasts storage of 120 hours of HD content; and the different ports enable users to view pictures, play DIVX files and MP3s. The device also features an Ethernet port for ‘digital interactive features.’
In addition to the HDR5010, Toshiba is also introducing three ranges of Freeview HD ready TV sets – the entry-level Regza RV range; the Regza SL Series; and the company’s flagship WL Series.
While the 50Hz LCD panels-equipped RV range will be available in 32, 37 and 40 inches; the Windows 7-certified SL and WL ranges – with LED backlighting, Resolution+ and four HDMIs – will respectively be available in 32, 40 and 46 inches, and 40, 46 and 55-inch sizes.
