Findings of a new study have suggested that natural scent of women seems to be a bigger turn-on for men, instead of expensive and popular perfumes. The research showed that when men smelled T-shirts worn by women when they were ovulating, it triggered a greater surge in sex hormone testosterone.
The finding, in addition to leading to development of a perfume which mimics a women's natural scent, could also lead to answering some basic questions about human biology.
"This is an issue that has been hotly debated: whether or not ovulation is concealed in human females. In lots of other species, there are very obvious indicators, but it has long been assumed that human females didn't give off these cues", said study co-author Jon Maner.
Details of the study have been published in Psychological Science.
"This is one of the first papers to show (a change in testosterone) in response to a chemical stimulus", said Jim Roney, a scientist at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
