A Texas jury has ruled that veteran nurse Anne Mitchell is not guilty of harassment, as she secretly wrote to the Texas Medical Board, a letter about a doctor she strongly believed was indulging in unethical medical practices.
The nurse's lawyer, John H. Cool IV, made the verdict public today, on the fourth day of the trial in Andrew, Texas. It took the jurors less than an hour to reach at the verdict.
"We are glad that this phase of this ordeal has ended and that Anne has been restored to her liberty. But there was great damage done in this case, and this does not make them whole", Mr. Cook said.
Had the verdict been in favor of the allegedly harassed doctor, the nurse could have faced a potential jail-time of 10 years. As per the Mitchell, her action were a result of the obligation she felt she was under as per the law, i. e., to report medical practices which are unsafe.
The complaint made by the nurse was against Doctor Rolando Arafiles.
