Reiterating Yahoo’s commitment to reinvent Internet search and turn around the plunging market share of the company, Yahoo executives recently attempted to clear the “misconception” about Yahoo’s seemingly laid back approach.

Speaking at the Sunnyvale, California, headquarters of the company on Wednesday, Yahoo executives took turns on the stage to provide a glimpse of some innovative efforts that Yahoo opines will help it differentiate its product after the closing of its deal with Microsoft, which will put in the latter’s hands the back-end technology powering Yahoo’s Web search service.

Noting that Yahoo is working towards producing the “next generation” of search, the Yahoo executives elucidated that a variety of new features are under-development, including an innovative way to search for restaurants on smartphones – whereby users can, with their fingers, draw a circle on an online map.

Further adding that Yahoo is looking to better amalgamate search results into other popular Yahoo features like email, the executives showed examples of search results that immediately bring up a variety of related information.

Saying that though Yahoo is not “talking” about its innovations, Shashi Seth, the company’s new Senior VP of Search, added that it does not mean that the company is “doing nothing.” Seth further said: “We are doing a lot to continue to invest in that space, continue to maintain our market share and grow the market share.”
