US Gaming Charts Topped By Nintendo and Microsoft

With hardware sales down 21%, software sales down 12% and Peripheral sales up 2%, January was an overall peaceful month for game sales. The best sold during this time was Nintendo Wii and DS. Further in the line was Microsoft PlayStation 3 firmly beating Sony's system last month.

Heading the way best-selling systems were Nintendo Wii on the top with 465,800 units sold, and the Nintendo DS took second place with 422,200 sold. In the software slot number 1 was the New Super Mario Bros. Wii with 656,700 sold. Third place was acquired by Wii Fit with 555,700 units sold, fifth position was secured by Mario Kart and Wii Sports Resort at sixth place with respectively 310,900 and 297,600 sold. The top two spots in hardware and five top spots in software were conquered by Nintendo.

For Microsoft, the sublime Mass Effect 2 secured second place on the software chart with 572,100 units sold. On the fourth place was Modern Warfare 2 with 326,700 sold. Eighth and tenth places were acquired by Army of Two: The 40th Day and Darksiders with 246,500 and 171,200 sold respectively. Sony in turn sold 276,900 PlayStation 3s January, in conjunction with 100,100 PlayStation Portables and 41,600 PlayStation 2s.
