Two Calgary companies have been complaining that their name should never have been put on the list of seven home-based tattoo and piercing parlors which were being closed because of health concerns.
"We had customers phoning all day yesterday. A lot of cancellations and we were just put in the wrong department" says Nicole Kilthau.
The company claims that it was unfairly labeled. It never offers tattoo making. Instead, their services focus on tattoo removal and that equipment never touches the skin.
The owner acknowledges his business was shut down by AHS but Robert Lazerik says it's only because he failed to get a business license.
"Just to be thrown in that group when we are very fastidious here, it just throws a black eye on the whole home-based business scene," said Jeff Barker, Outlaws’s owner.
Barker said that he appreciates the health officials for investigating the home-based tattoo parlors but feels a distinction should be made between the bad ones and those who he says made a few simple mistakes.
The five businesses that remain closed because of health violations are Dustin Blatz Tattooing, Grave Marking Tattooing, Norms Tattoos, Piercer Dan, and Tattoo Girl.
So far, more than 30 people have contacted AHS to arrange for testing.
