Having Chocolates Can Help Stroke Patients

A study has emerged as good news for chocolate lovers. It was found in this study, involving nearly 50,000 subjects, that people who have chocolates have 22% less probability of suffering from a stroke and that if people who already suffered the stroke start having chocolates, the chances of their deaths reduced 46%.

These reports will be exposed at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in Toronto. The reason for this was discovered to be that chocolates are rich in flavanoids, which is a healthy anti-oxidant.

Sarah Sahib, the author of the study from University of Toronto in Canada said, "More research is needed to determine whether chocolate truly lowers stroke risk, or whether healthier people are simply more likely to eat chocolate than others."

Sarah worked with colleague Dr. Gustavo Saposnik. Two studies were conducted firstly 44,489 people were monitored. It was found a person having one chocolate per week were 22% less likely to have a stroke than people who ate no chocolate. In the second study, 1,169 people who already suffered stroke were monitored and it was found that if they had 50 grams of chocolate once a week the chances of their death reduced 46 %.

However, Dr. Saposnik alarmed, "Eating too much chocolate can make you fat as chocolate also contains saturated fats. Further investigation needs to be done. We need to study specific chocolate consumption”.
