Batteries Made of Silver Nanoparticles Could Revolutionize Treatment of Mental I

Reports have speculated that batteries which are made out of silver nanoparticles might just end up revolutionizing treatment methods for some of the most persistent diseases, mainly through devices implanted in the brain in order to offer effective treatment of stroke and mental illnesses, or in the spine as a treatment to chronic pain.

The possibilities seem to be infinite, as it might also be possible to come up with devices which can be implanted in the vagal nerve system for the effective treatment of migraines, Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, even obesity, as has been stressed by American researchers.

The nanoparticles are a part of a new family of materials that are being created in the labs of Esther Takeuchi, Distinguished Professor and Greatbatch Professor of Advanced Power Sources PhD, at the State University of New York.

"We may be heading toward a time when we can make batteries so tiny that they -- and the devices they power -- can simply be injected into the body. What's really exciting about this concept is that we are tuning the material at the atomic level. So the change in its conductivity and performance is inherent to the material. We didn't add supplements to achieve that, we did it by changing the active material directly", said Mr. Takeuchi.
