Deaths due to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) were also less as compared to earlier figures for this time of year. Apart from this other deaths reported this week were three flu-related pediatric deaths.

States like Georgia, Alabama, Maine, New Mexico, New Jersey, and South Carolina however reported regional influenza activity.

Viruses identified so far continue to be 2009 H1N1 influenza A viruses. Reports state that they are like the virus chosen for the 2009 H1N1 vaccine. These viruses stay at a risk to oseltamivir and zanamivir drugs rarely.

Confirmed deaths reported to the CDC due to H1N1 virus are 2,498 in Atlanta, it is also estimated that 8,330 and 17,160 people have died from H1N1.
