Despite Falling Sales, Chrysler Dealers Asked to be Optimistic

On Sunday morning, American dealers of Chrysler were asked to keep a positive and optimistic outlook for the future, and believe that Chrysler and Fiat SpA CEO Sergio Marchionne will save the third largest automobiles manufacturer of America from sinking, all thanks to a new range of products soon to be unveiled.

Chrysler seemed "like a preacher on Sunday. It's easy to preach the Ten Commandments. It's living it (that is hard)", said Chris Saraceno, Vice President of auto group Kelly Management. Kelly currently holds a total of 11 dealerships including a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep one in eastern Pennsylvania.

Mr. Saraceno, in addition to several other dealers, shared that Chrysler chiefs, led by Fred Diaz, the US Sales Head, asked them to "hang on" during the year's first-half with a range of vehicles laden with dated products, because things would change by the time the fourth quarter rolled in, when nearly 75% of the automaker's line-up will be new or greatly refurbished.

While some dealers were disappointed, some managed to see some hope in the announcement. "Nothing surprised me. I didn't come out of there saying 'Wow!' but I also didn't come out of there saying 'Darn it!'", said Paul Walser, owner of a Chrysler dealership in Hopkins, Minnesota, while stressing that the first half of 2010 is all set to "be a struggle".
