Thomson Holidays could face a legal action by 30 of its tourists who claim that they fell ill and suffered from Salmonella and Norovirus at a hotel in Tenerife. Against the four-star Los Gigantes Hotel, a property of Thomson on the island's west coast, action is being taken on behalf of the suffered guests by a legal firm Irwin Mitchell.
Head of Travel Law at the firm Clive Garner informed, "The presence of salmonella is a concern and would suggest that hygiene standards were not maintained. Reports suggest that health guidelines have not been followed and people have not been warned. Total compensation claims could be more than £1 million and the number of complaints could rise significantly in the next few weeks".
According to the tourists, they suffered from Salmonella and Norovirus because of improper hygiene standards and inappropriate warnings regarding the intensity of outbreak. 48 hours of isolation is recommended to patients infected with Norovirus after treatment as suggested by NHS guidelines.
A Thomson Spokesman said, "The health and well being of our customers is our primary focus. We closely monitor all the hotels in which we operate with a view to ensuring that the strictest health and hygiene standards are maintained. As an additional measure, the hotel has adopted procedures set by their own consultants and local government. The hygiene consultant witnessed these and has advised that they appear to follow good practice".
