A sixth student was hospitalized after falling ill who was attending a YMCA Youth and Government conference in North Carolina, on Saturday night. He was found with the symptoms of food-poisoning.
Jeffrey Hammerstein, District Chief of Wake Emergency Medical shared that 150 students and adults were evaluated who had the symptoms similar to the latest student. They reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and headaches after a catered dinner Friday night at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Wake County health department officials are investigating the cause of the illness. City staff will work with the health department to find the cause of illness.
"I think we have to find out that the kitchen was the source of any problem. I want to get to the bottom of it", said Russell Allen, Raleigh City Manager.
YMCA spokeswoman Jennifer Nelson told that the earlier five taken to the hospital have been released.
