Monday at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, witnessed Abode Systems unveil the mobile edition of its Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) 2.0 runtime; thereby indicating that AIR is being positioned by Abode as a common runtime that would help create applications for any AIR-enabled mobile platform.
The San Jose, California-based Abode is planning to launch AIR - which a programming foundation for standalone applications using Flash or Web technology, and its second public beta is already available on Abode Labs - some time “in 2010.”
Elaborating that the AIR for mobile will use the company’s common Flash Player 10.1 platform for desktops and mobile devices, Abode used the Android-based Motorola Droid to demonstrate AIR at the MWC. The demonstration included the Tweetcards Twitter application, a “South Park”-style avatar creator, and Adobe’s Connect Pro software that enables videoconferencing and screen-sharing.
Abode said in a statement that AIR for mobile devices will particularly support gesture inputs; multitouch interfaces; accelerometers that facilitate motion and device orientation; as well as geolocation for identifying location.
With Abode committed to the launch of AIR on the Google Android platform, Christy Wyatt, the VP of software applications and ecosystem at Motorola, said: “We look forward to seeing AIR come to the Android platform and developers creating applications that will delight our end-users.”
