Review of HIV Prevention and Support Services to be Conducted
HIV-AIDS

The Ministry has specially made HIV service review, and the findings will be made public in April. The purpose of the review is not to decrease or redirect the funding. Particularly the Ministry has not addressed its objectives. Dr. David Miller, a NZ-trained clinical psychologist will conduct the review. He has worked for the World Health Organization and UNAIDS and has experience of HIV/AIDS and sexual health programs overseas. He will focus on HIV-positive people who are accessing/receiving services.

"It is about informing future decisions in regards to future investment in this area to ensure that funding contributes towards improving service coverage for people who are HIV-positive and that those services are effective and cost-efficient", said the Ministry.

Obama's administration announced last year that HIV has become a practical reality and people must declare it in the list of communicable diseases.

"The 'visa on arrival' form no longer includes HIV as a risk factor which must be declared as a communicable disease", said Blair Bauer, Auckland gay travel consultant.

US Department of Health and Human Services has now formally removed HIV as a risk.
