New York Times Examines Plagiarism Allegations

The New York Times is examining the work of one of its reporters who has been accused of plagiarism. After observing a number of similarities between an article of February 5 of The Wall Street Journal's Web site and articles that later appeared in the online and printed editions of the Times, Zachery Kouwe, New York Times business reporter, resigned. He had reportedly been doing this for many years.

The New York Times published an Editor's Note in Monday's paper stated, “Mr. Kouwe, who primarily wrote for the DealBook blog on nytimes. com, appears to have improperly appropriated words and passages published by other news organization including The Wall Street Journal and Reuters. We also promise to take appropriate action consistent with our standards to protect the integrity of our journalism".

After three years as a mergers-and-acquisitions reporter for the New York Post, Mr. Kouwe was hired by the Times in 2008. Initially he worked as a reporter at Dow Jones Newsletters.
